Lomond Colts were formed in 2006, when the club started with one team of under 15 aged boys. The club then introduced a strategy for the long term with the introduction of new teams at a variety of different age groups and genders. The club joined the Scottish Youth Football Association (syfa) and Disclosure Scotland. The teams joined the local league Central & East Fife Soccer Sevens Association (cefssa).
The club introduced a coach & player pathway system, where new Volunteer coaches could work with existing coaches to better their knowledge and have the responsibility for coaching and managing a team at a specific age group. At present the club has one chairperson, one club secretary, twenty six volunteer coaches in the football teams, three administration staff, one Volunteer Co-ordinator and two child protection officers.
Lomond Colts is aimed to provide football for those members of the community who wish to play to have fun and to promote social inclusion. The teams are made up from children from different walks in society, and of different backgrounds. Within the teams there are children from different cultures and the teams are based upon the philosophy of ten new kids that’s a new team. No emphasis is placed upon winning, just about enjoyment.
The club is based in Glenrothes at the Lomond Centre in Woodside. The club has one Astro pitch (seven a side) one full size pitch (grass) and four seven a side pitches (grass) with four 4 a side pitches (grass). The location is central in Glenrothes and is on all major roadways to Dundee (A92) and has a great number of local buses passing daily. The main bus station is just 5 minutes walk from the centre, and the centre has car parking for over 100 vehicles.
Since its beginnings Lomond Colts have achieved the Scottish Football Quality Mark each year. The growth and development of coaches and players has seen the club become the only team in Fife to be recognised with the Scottish Football Association Community Award in 2009. This award allows for the club to show that it provides pathways for players form as early as 3 through to our adult team, with a special section for Girls only. The club has seen its further development with coaches form Dutch club PSV Eindhoven travel to train our members, whilst a link between both coaches and clubs has been established with coaches travelling to Holland for an 8 day exchange study trip. A further development in the club has seen Dutch Uk football schools join with us and in 2010 the club will link with Shalke 08 in Germany for coach exchange programmes. The club has signed up to the “Positive coaching ideology” (Scotland) and the “Respect campaign” (England) where children should be provided with a safe learning environment, safe from verbal and emotional abuse whilst playing. Lomond Colts will continue to grow and become established as a major force for fun and enjoyment for all those who wish to become part of a club with a great history.
